WEEE is the abbreviation for ‘Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment’. The directive, known as WEEE for short, regulates the take-back and recycling of electrical and electronic products, specifying recycling quotas for manufacturers from 2006.
From 24 March 2006, electrical and electronic equipment that falls under the directives of the Waste Disposal Act will be labelled as shown and may no longer be disposed of with residual waste, but only via the public waste disposal authorities and then returned to the manufacturers and importers.
The symbol of the painted waste container, which can also be found on every light, indicates that the product used must be disposed of at the end of its service life in a different way to normal household waste.
The end user is responsible for the disposal and is obliged to find suitable places for the separate disposal of the used luminaire or to return it to the seller when purchasing a new luminaire (on a 1:1 basis). Appropriate waste disposal and possible recycling of the used luminaires help to avoid possible adverse environmental effects or damage to health and promote the recycling of materials.
For detailed information on the disposal facilities available, contact the local waste disposal centre of the shop where you purchased the luminaire.
