What does the beam angle mean with SPOTLIGHTS?
Anyone who deals with LED spotlights will sooner or later come across the term beam angle. But what exactly does it mean - and why is the beam angle so important in lighting design?
Beam angle explained simply
The beam angle describes the angle at which the light is emitted from the spotlight - i.e. how wide or focussed the light hits a surface. A small beam angle produces a narrow cone of light with high light intensity. A large beam angle, on the other hand, distributes the light more widely, but less accentuated.
BRUCK offers spotlights with different beam angles - for maximum flexibility in lighting design:
Beam angle overview
Beam angle | Effect | Application |
---|---|---|
30° | Very focussed light | Ideal for spot accent lighting, e.g. works of art, sculptures, display cabinets |
40° | Precise, but slightly wider | For targeted islands of light, e.g. in reading corners or to showcase objects |
50° | Universally applicable | Good middle ground for table, counter or work surface lighting |
60° | Wider illumination | For cosy general lighting in the living or dining area |
100°-110° | Very wide, wide-area lighting | Perfect for wide-area wall illumination of cabinets, shelves and pictures |
When do I use which beam angle?
Narrow beam angle (30°-40°):
Use these spotlights for targeted accents - for example to emphasise works of art, display cabinets or architectural details. Narrow angles are also suitable for high ceilings, as the light is focussed and hits the desired surface more intensively.Medium beam angle (50°-60°):
These spotlight beam angles offer the best balance between light intensity and surface illumination. Suitable for kitchen worktops, dining tables, living areas or offices.Wide beam angle (100°-110°):
If you want to illuminate large areas evenly - for example in the hallway, bedroom or bathroom - these versions are recommended. They produce a pleasantly diffuse, soft light without harsh shadows.
With the right choice of beam angle, you can get the best out of your LED spotlights.
At BRUCK, you have the choice between focussed spot lighting and uniform area lighting - to suit your room, your ceiling and your style.

FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions about SPOTLIGHTS from BRUCK
Here we answer the most important questions about SPOTLIGHTS – to bring clarity to your lighting plan.
The optimal beam angle depends on the room and the desired lighting effect.
For accent lighting on pictures, sculptures, bookshelves, or other objects, a beam angle of 30–40° is recommended.
In the living room, 50–60° is ideal for creating cozy lighting zones.
In the hallway, wide beam angles (100–110°) are ideal for evenly illuminating long paths.
In the bathroom, 60–100° spotlights provide glare-free, wide lighting – for example above the mirror.
For rooms with high ceilings, multiple LED spotlights with a narrow beam angle (30–40°) are recommended. They concentrate the light and create strong light accents even across long distances. Adjustable BRUCK spotlights in track systems are especially flexible for such lighting solutions.
Yes, BRUCK LED spotlights are dimmable. In combination with the appropriate dimmer or in the BRUCK track system and a smart control system, the light intensity can be individually regulated - for different moods and times of day.
For dimming to work properly, choosing the right dimmer is crucial. Not all dimmers are equally suitable. We recommend the following models for reliable, flicker-free dimming: Rotary dimmer: Vadsbo VD300 – ideal for wall installation. Push-button & Casambi control: Vadsbo LD220WCM – for control via push-button or Casambi app.
Spotlights are usually adjustable fixtures with a focused beam, suitable for accent or zone lighting. Spots are more compact and often fixed, with a narrower beam angle. BRUCK spotlights offer greater flexibility thanks to swivel and tilt functions.
As a general rule: one spotlight per 5–6 m² with a medium beam angle (50–60°). In the kitchen, additional spotlights are recommended above work surfaces or dining areas. In the living room, spotlights are great for zone lighting, e.g. by sofas, shelves, or artworks. If there's only one ceiling outlet, a BRUCK track system is ideal for installing multiple spotlights.
Spotlights should always be aimed precisely at the objects or surfaces to be highlighted – e.g. pictures, niches, or work areas. With BRUCK track systems, position and direction can be flexibly adjusted even afterwards. It's important not to shine light directly into seating or viewing areas to avoid glare. Ideally, the viewer should only see the rear side of the spotlight.
A track system allows you to place multiple spotlights along a power rail – using only one power outlet. BRUCK track systems can be individually configured, expanded, and combined with both spotlights and pendant lights. Benefits: easy installation, flexible adjustment, modern aesthetics.
Yes, BRUCK LED spotlights are energy-efficient and durable. They consume up to 80% less energy than halogen spotlights and offer high light output with low heat generation. Suitable for sustainable lighting concepts throughout the living area. On some BRUCK models, the LED can even be replaced by the user; others can be serviced by the manufacturer.
Absolutely – especially in open living concepts such as combined living-dining areas, spotlights and pendant lights can complement each other harmoniously. While pendant lights are decorative above tables, spotlights provide targeted accents or functional lighting. BRUCK track systems support both types of fixtures in one system.
