FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions About BRUCK PENDANT LUMINAIRES

Here we answer the most important questions about pendant lighting – to help you plan with clarity.

Tips for dining table, kitchen island and sideboard

The correct height of a pendant light is crucial for light effect, functionality, and aesthetics in a room. Whether above a dining table, kitchen island or sideboard – each setting requires an individually adjusted mounting height. Here’s what matters.

Pendant light above the dining table – the golden rule
The ideal height for a pendant light above a dining table is typically 60–70 cm above the tabletop. This creates a pleasant lighting atmosphere without glare. Important: the lamp should neither obstruct the view of the person opposite nor hang too high and lose its impact.

Pendant light above the kitchen island – focused on functional lighting
Above a kitchen island, functional, glare-free lighting is essential. An ideal distance is 80–90 cm from the work surface. Multiple pendant lights are often aligned in a row to ensure even illumination.

Pendant light above the sideboard or lowboard – stylishly staged
For sideboards, dressers, or lowboards, the pendant light often serves as a decorative feature. The ideal hanging height is 120–150 cm from the floor – depending on ceiling height and room concept. The light creates accents and a harmonious play of light on walls and furniture.

General tips for pendant light mounting height:

Keep sightlines clear:
Especially in dining or living areas, the lamp should not obstruct the view.

Check for glare:
Depending on the light source and shade, the light should not shine directly into the eyes.

Consider ceiling height:
With high ceilings, the lamp may hang lower to create a cozy atmosphere.

The number of pendant lights required above a dining table mainly depends on the length of the table, the size of the lights, and the desired lighting effect. The goal is even, glare-free illumination across the entire table – both functional and atmospheric.

Recommendations based on table size:

Up to 140 cm table length:
A single pendant light with sufficient diameter (approx. 30–50 cm) is usually enough. Ideal are models with a wide light cone or direct downlight.

140–180 cm table length:
Two smaller pendant lights at equal distance or a multi-light fixture with two sources are suitable here. This ensures even lighting without dark zones.

180–240 cm table length:
For longer tables, three individual pendants, a canopy, or a rail system are ideal. Lights should be spaced evenly – around 60–80 cm apart.

From 240 cm table length:
Large tables need four smaller pendant lights or a combination of lights on a rail system or canopy. This ensures optimal lighting at every seat.

Additional planning tips:

Mind the height:
Pendants should hang about 60–70 cm above the table – slightly lower for high ceilings.

Distance to table edge:
Leave around 30 cm from each edge so the light is centered and out of the way.

Symmetry matters:
Lights should be aligned centrally above the table and evenly spaced – for visual balance in the room.
